Government OS

I’m not usually one to get into politics. In fact, I usually try to stay as far from politics as possible. But I had an idea today that I thought was an interesting concept. A government is like an operating system for a country. Its purpose is, primarily, to run the country as cleanly and efficiently as possible. And when I say the country, I don’t mean the land, just as I don’t mean a building when I say the church. Just as the church is the people within it, the country is the people under a certain government.

With this distinction in mind, a government’s purpose is to make civilized, fairly orderly life possible for its citizens, and in the process of doing so, to get in the way as little as possible.

Before I go further, I’ll let you know tht I’m a Mac guy. After years with Windows computers, I finally got fed up with all the extra, “helpful” stuff that is included in operating systems like Vista and &, but is actually just annoying, and got a Mac. I’ve never looked back.

At the moment, I’d compare the American government to a Windows OS – it takes forever to get anything done, there is all this “helpful” stuff that seems good, but turns out to be more trouble than it’s worth, and the focus shifts from people living their lives to people constantly dealing with managing the government (need I remind you that it’s the government that’s supposed to be managing us) The focus in the government has shifted from “government” – that is, managing the lives of the citizens – to “politics” – constantly trying to manage who is in office for how long and what they are doing while there.

I think we should try to change the American government to a Mac. It’s clean, it’s efficient, it protects us, and it’s, most importantly, forgotten. Sure, we can update when elections roll around, but other than that, let’s just live our lives.

Maybe we should elect Steve Jobs as President.
